Cannabidiol, usually referred to as CBD, is a component that is present in most cannabis/marijuana products. Using this component will not make an individual high and typically will not appear on drug test results. However, CBD products that contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will be evident on marijuana drug tests. THC is a component that triggers the feeling of being high. Many CBD products do contain trace amounts of THC.

The benefits of CBD vary depending on its usage. While its not available everywhere, most medical staff consider CBD a popular medical supplement. It can alleviate pain, anxiety, and sleeping disorders, while preventing seizures and helping to control anger.

Most drug tests can detect THC, and a CBD user may fail a drug test as a result. Understanding different CBD products can help ensure that an individual avoids THC usage.

Full-Spectrum CBD includes everything the full-spectrum CBD contains, excluding THC. However, it may carry trace amounts.

Broad-Spectrum CBD contains everything the full-spectrum contains, excluding THC. Trace amounts may be present.

Isolate CBD contains only CBD with no additives. It has been isolated from all other components.

Unless the CBD contains THC, it shouldn’t be detectable by a standard drug test. The length at which THC can remain in the system depends on the test taken and the individual who took it. The persons weight, age, sex, build, and volume of consumption can influence on how long THC remains in their system.

Urine Test

When taking a urine test, a sample is received from the individual and sent to review. Urine tests can detect THC-COOH, a metabolite of THC that is produced when the liver breaks down the component. A urine test can detect THC within 3 to 30 days after consumption.

Blood Test

A blood test can measure the active THC and metabolite levels within an individual. Many experts consider it the most accurate test. However, because of the bodys ability to remove these components from its system, it can only detect THC usage 12 to 24 hours after consumption.

Saliva Test

Saliva testing for THC is relatively new. When smoking THC, the lining of an individuals mouth absorbs the THC, where it can remain without fully degrading. This test is typically to reveal recent usage and can identify THC 12 to 74 hours after consumption.

Sweat Test

A non-invasive test for THC is the sweat test. To do this test, individuals will need to wear a skin patch for 10 to 14 days. It can detect THC usage a few hours before its removal.

Hair Follicle Test

Drug tests typically use hair follicle testing to determine long-term usage. In a hair sample from the scalp a test can detect THC usage up to 3 months prior.

Secondhand Exposure

Studies show that it is possible to receive a false positive if an individual has had secondhand exposure to THC. One study concluded that an individual who sat in a small, non-ventilated environment with someone smoking THC could test positive on a urine test.

The most efficient method of removing THC from your system before a drug test is to abstain from using CBD in the time leading up to your test. However, if you are medically dependent on CBD, ensure that the products you consume are isolated products. Always inform the tester of your medical needs so they can best accommodate for what may appear.
